wouldn't you know that it was an adventure getting back here tho... it wouldn't be meg
if it wasn't drama... so my flight left at 6am and needless to say i wasn't gonna go to bed the night
before... BIG MISTAKE! (you know what i get like when i'm drunk!!) so, i started drinking at around
3pm and thus don't really remember much of the evening other than the fact that i got my 100kg of
luggage down to about 60 by giving practically everything i owned. what was i doing with 100kg in
the first place? don't ask!
so after a huge night in freo, i realize its 3:30 in the am and I haven't fully packed. so i rush
back to Sundancers and start
packing the rest of my stuff. The shuttle comes at like 4am on the dot and i'm racing down the stairs to get it. crying and
saying good bye to my friends while still trying to shove everything in a suitcase.
i get on the shuttle and pass out. thank god! well we get to the airport and i realize
i've left a suitcase back at the hostel.
to make it worse, the shuttle guy is demanding $35 and i can't find my credit card. he leaves
to go drop off the other bus riders and says he'll be back with security.
well at this point i'm still half drunk, half hungover, and just emotionally drained. then
it comes to me, i didn't just leave a suitcase- i left the suitcase... the one with my laptop,
video camera, make-up, jewelry, prescriptions, you name it anything you'd carry on.... i was
totally screwed.
then, as some of you knew, my visa had expired... well wouldn't you know i was detained by
immigration for 30 minutes when leaving Sydney. they wanted to know what i was doing and why
i didn't have a proper visa... i played dumb and they let me go, but we'll see what happens next
time i try to go down under... i may not get to! :-)
i called the hostel when i got done with immigration and they yelled at me for not paying the shuttle
guy... hey i had no cash and no credit card, what was i
supposed to do? plus i was leaving the country in less than 5 hours!
so i tracked a friend down and she went to pick up the suitcase for me. she'll be home in
december and then i'll get my stuff back...
moral of the story?
don't get too drunk the night before you leave and for your own sake PACK FIRST!!!
