Location: Taupo, New Zealand

However, my writing lags my location, a bit, and when I left you last, it was enroute from Rotorua to Lake Taupo. This drive lasted most of the morning - we arrived in Lake Taupo, New Zealand's premier trout fishing location, at about lunch-time, having previously visited the Huka Falls, a beautiful location where really, a picture is worth a thousand words. But as soon as I am off the road and somewhat more settled, (probably in Saudi Arabia) I will put together a few nice albums or an illustrated travelogue and send it to you all.

Once at the lake, which is a crater lake resulting from the largest volcanic eruption in the southern hemisphere, we did a little shopping and ate a lakeside lunch. Some of our companions went parasailing or sky-diving; I've done those things already, so I just enjoyed a quiet afternoon on the shores of a lake large enough to swallow the land mass of Singapore. Evening found us dressed 'smart-casual' and boarding a large boat for a night on the water, complete with dinner, fishing, karaoke, a spontaneous "male topless revue", and of course, lots of drinking. This followed by a big night starting at an Irish pub, and then later, a dance club.

Fortunately, my natural immunity to the ravages of the demon rum has proved strong, and I've woken up daily in fabulous spirits, without resorting to Advil, which I didn't bring, and which is hideously expensive over here - $15NZ for a bottle of 48 tablets... One of the nice things about this tour - you're obliged to get up and about at a pretty early hour, so the natural urge to sleep late after a wild night is canceled out.

At any rate... Caught no trout at Taupo, but I have a free day in Queenstown, where I plan to make a somewhat more serious attempt at fishing. Leaving Taupo, we headed south again, headed for Wellington, or Smelly-Welly... Kiwi's have nicknames for most of their cities, ie, Churcher for Christchurch, etc...
