you'd think i'd learned from previous experiences all about airport luggage limits and
the like, but then again it wouldn't be me without some sort of chaos surrounding my travels.
I did the research before I left to make sure I knew the weight limits for each bag... i could go up to
100 lbs but anything over they wouldn't accept. of course i knew i would have to pay extra, but that wasn't a problem,
all that mattered was that i got to take my stuff with me.
so they check one bag all the way to auckland for me but the other one - weighing in at 100.6 lbs - will be refused by Qantas
so they refuse to check it any further than LAX. no worries. positive thinking.
i get to lax, collect the bag and go to recheck it in. i play dumb of course and they tell me the bag is too heavy to check.
what's more, they want to check my carry-on as it is already 10k over. ahh the troubles i get myself into... so with a quick
switch of the hand, smoke mirrors and swearing, i managed to rearrange it all to their satisfaction.
this is where the airlines got stupid and i got smart. i failed to mention the bag previously checked in dfw. to the agent in la,
i was well within my two bag limit. no worries. positive thinking. so my bags have been
weighed and tagged and i must now take them
over to be scanned before they can go on the plane. well when the line takes at least 30 minutes to get thru, one has idle time on their
hands. see where i'm going?
well by the time i got up to have my bags scanned, all the stuff that had been pulled out had been quickly slipped back into
the bags. the people behind me were just laughing at my sly moves. what did they expect me to do? not put it back in and be honest?
c'mon now, i'm a backpacker and left to my own ways i will do what it takes to survive ;-)
so in the end, i was able to check over 175lbs and carried on simply my laptop and my bag to keep me refreshed. the point of this
tale? where there is a will there is a way. don't give up... positive thinking and you'll get what you want!
