Review of Whakatane New Zealand WHAKATANE
Calling Code: +64 7

On the eastern side of the Bay of Plenty is the town of Whakatane, a small beachside community. It was the first Maori landfall and is a base for big-game fishing, observing dolphins, jet-boating, white-water rafting, hunting, hiking, paragliding, kayaking and trout fishing. The town offers an historic walk and the only waterfall to found in the centre of any town in New Zealand.

Quick tips/suggestions
For the ultimate adventure, head to White Island, a continuously active volcano where sulphur lipped fumaroles and roaring steam vents create a stark wonderland. Other alternatives are the Aquatic Centre or the museum and gallery.
