Just before you reach Warkworth there's a waterfall
with great views over the Hauraki Gulf. The walk to the falls
and lookout takes about 3hrs. There are also stunning beaches
on the island and some good walks.
But the highlight at Warkworth
has to be the rather obviously named Sheepworld, a blatant exploitation
of the overseas perception that every Kiwi's best friend is a
wooly 4-legged mammal. A kind of baa-ing theme park and exhibition,
it's actually very good fun. Sheep shearing, lamb feeding and
every piece of sheep-related merchandise you can imagine.
