Its founding by Nova Scotian settlers is recorded and commemorated
in the recently refurbished and extended Waipu Heritage Centre. Early in 2003, the township's
132nd Highland Games formed part of the extended celebrations marking the 150th anniversary
of the Nova Scotian settlement.
A Heritage Trail can be followed either on foot or by vehicle. Surfing and fishing are enjoyed
at Waipu Cove.
