Nestled between Argentina and Brazil on South
America's east coast, Uruguay looks small, but proves the adage that looks can be deceiving.
Although it is the second smallest South American country, Uruguay's relatively low population makes for plenty of open space and
arable land, from the rolling grasslands of the interior to the sweeping coastal plains.
The Uruguayan people, nearly half of whom live in or around capital city Montevideo, are
mostly of European descent and enjoy a generally high standard of living. Three of their greatest loves are beef (Uruguay's per
capita consumption of beef is amongst the highest in the world), mat tea and soccer, the national sport.
