Review of international travel to Turks and Caicos Islands
The Turks and Caicos Islands are a group of 30 islands, eight of them inhabited, lying at the eastern end of the Grand Bahama, north of Haiti. They are composed of low, flat limestone terrain, with scrub, marsh, and swamp providing little space for agriculture.
Previously claimed by France and Spain, the islands have ben British since 1766. They were administered from Jamaica until 1959 when they became a separate Crown Colony - thought since 1998 they have been described as a British Overseas Territory.

Tourism and finance have recently overtaken fishing as the main economic activities. Over half of the population live in rural areas, but farming is mainly at subsistence levels. Dried, frozen and processed fish remain the chief exports. Offshore banking facilities are also expanding.
