Review of Tahiti French Polynesia TAHITI
Calling Code: +689

Tahiti, often called "The Island of Love", is the largest of the 118 Islands and atolls that make up French Polynesia. The island measures 1,042 sq. km. (402 sq. miles) and the surface ranges from 2000 meters (6560 feet) high mountain peaks, wrapped into mysterious hazes, to deep green valleys covered with rainforests and soft ferns, and finally white coral beaches.

Tahiti is shaped almost like a number eight turned nearly upside down. The larger portion of the island, which is to the northwest, is referred to as Tahiti Nui (big Tahiti). This part of Tahiti is surrounded by a 114 km road (71 miles) that winds between the mountains and the sea. The smaller portion of the island is called Tahiti-lti (little Tahiti).

Although Tahiti is a very beautiful island, other nearby Polynesian islands are much more attractive to the visitors, as they are more peaceful and romantic. Tahiti, however, offers interesting excursions and is a great stopover destination on your way to other French Polynesian islands as all international flights arrive in Papeete, Tahiti.
