A junction between Egmont National Park and Whanganui National Park,
Stratford is a town of lush gardens surrounded by rain forested mountain slopes
and is a good base for exploring the region which offers great walks and ski slopes.
The snow-capped mountain dominates surrounding native bush with 320km of scenic
walkways and breathtaking views of Stratford and the western coastline. Waterfalls
and streams cascade down the mountain into the Patea River, which winds through
the town center.
Stratford has great parks and gardens, and hosts te Rhododendron Festival from
late October to December. It also boasts New Zealand's only public glockenspiel.
