SIERRE
Calling Code: +41 (0)27
Nestling comfortably between its hills, Sierre lies in a privileged location on the frontier between the Upper and the Lower Valais. This welcoming town is well known for its exceptional amount of sunshine and its meridional character.
The Romans called it "the town of the hundred hills". They appreciated the charm of these hills, some of which are crowned by castles around which hamlets developed that are now linked together by more recent buildings.
Today as in days gone by, artists are attracted by the charms of Sierre and its region. A large number of them chose to stay for a while in the region of Sierre putting their talent to work in the field of literature or the plastic arts (R.M. Rilke, Rudolf Kassner, Goethe, Toepfer, Churchill, Valry, Piccard). These artists became precious ambassadors spreading the fame of Sierre far afield.
If there's a place you've stayed or something you've done, but we haven't listed, review it for us!
