Review of international travel to Senegal
Senegal is located on the most western part of Africa and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in the west, along 350 miles of beautiful sandy beaches.

Situated between Sahel to the north and the large tropical forest, Senegal is a flat country with an average altitude of 200m. Four rivers - the Senegal, the Gambia, the Saloum and the Casamance - cross the country causing a rare irregularity of the grounds from the volcanic peninsula of Cap-Vert, to the "cliff" in Thies to the first spur of the massifs of Fouta Djalon, in Guinea.

Today, Senegal is a country of 8 million, which gained its Independence from France in 1960. It is a young country where half the population is under 20. A secular state, it has a population who is 94% Muslim, the rest being Catholics, a few Protestants and followers of traditional religions. Senegal is a Republic with a President elected every seven years, a National Assembly and a Senate. The president is currently Mr. Abdoulaye Wade who was elected in March 2000, becoming the countrys 3rd President. Senegal is a democracy with a free press and several political parties.

Known for its dynamic culture, friendly people, beautiful beaches, and warm climate, Senegal has become one of the most sought-after destinations in Africa. Today, tourism is its second source of income. Ideally located less than 6 1/2 hours from New York, Senegal offers everything that makes Africa unique in a safe, friendly, and comfortable environment.

For American passport holders, a visa is not required for stays of less than 90 days. Senegalese health officials will ask to see a WHO vaccination card with current yellow fever and cholera vaccinations, if the traveler is arriving from an endemic area.
