Review of Santo Domingo Dominican Republic SANTO DOMINGO
Calling Code: +(1)809

Santo Domingo is the capital city on the southern coast of the island. Santo Domingo has a lot to offer: rich colonial monuments, shopping, nightlife and good restaurants. The colonial section has been carefully restored to retain its original charm and is home to the first university, cathedral and hospital built in the new world. The modern city of Santo Domingo, by contrast, is a thriving port city, equipped with shopping plazas, fast food restaurants, discotheques, casinos, hotels, green parks and fancy restaurants.

Just a few miles to the east is the remarkable cave complex of Los Tres Ojos (the three eyes), so called because it contains three turquoise lagoons on three different levels. Each is fed by an underground river and surrounded by countless stalactites, stalagmites and lush tropical vegetation.

Santo Domingo is a must for tourists and ideal for the business community. The nearest beaches are in Boca Chica, a 25-minute drive from Santo Domingo's city center.
