Rarotonga is often called the emerald jewel of the Pacific due to its unbelivable natural beauty. Green volcanic slopes, white palm fringed beaches and turquise lagoon all make it a real paradise on Earth.
Rarotonga is the youngest in the southern group of Cook Islands and is thus unlike other volcanic neighbours. The interior of the island was once a mighty volcanic pyramid whose crags now form sawtooth peaks and razorback ridges covered with tropical jungle. Streams are running down steep valleys and waterfalls caress rocky cliffs. The highest peek of Rarotonga is 2140 feet (658m) above sea level. The island is surrounded by a lagoon that extends several hundred yards to the reef which then slopes steeply to deep water.
When compared to Hawaii, Rarotonga is muc more affordable, not so crowdy and more relaxed. Rarotonga is the entry point for the Cook Islands by air.
