Review of Paris France PARIS
Calling Code: +33

Paris, capital of France and its commercial and industrial center, is located on the Seine River in the northern central region of the country. Dubbed the City of Light because of its beauty and its rich intellectual life, Paris is an internationally renowned intellectual and cultural center. Its graceful architecture, diverse museums, fine hotels, elegant shops, world-class restaurants and exciting nightlife are among the many reasons tourists love Paris.

The Seine River flows through the center of Paris, dividing it into two sections: the right bank, to the north, and the left bank. The left bank, which includes most of the city's government buildings, is known as the intellectual and bohemian section. For centuries artists, intellectuals, musicians, university faculty and students have gathered in districts like Faubourg Saint-Germain and the Latin Quarter.

Among the other points of interest on the left bank are the French Academy, the Luxembourg Palace and Gardens, the Quai d'Orsay, the Sorbonne, the Chamber of Deputies and the Hotel des Invalides. Near the Seine, on the Champs-de-Mars, stands the Eiffel Tower, and a beautiful view across the Seine of the Arc de Triomphe.

Also across the Seine on the right bank are some of Paris's most elegant streets and shopping districts, along with famous sites and monuments like the Bibliothque nationale, the Bois de Boulogne, the Louvre, the Champs lyses, the Opra, the Comdie Franaise, Place de la Bastille, Montmartre and the Place de la Concorde. In the middle of the Seine is the le de la Cit, a small island upon which stands the stately Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris.

Paris is divided into 20 concentric circular districts called arrondissements, each of which has its own mayor or local council. These officials, in turn, are subordinate to the mayor of the City of Paris.
