COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Looking to scare up a "phantasmic"
weekend getaway this fall? Ohio has plenty of haunts to thrill and chill even
the most adventurous spirit.
Northeast Ohio
Is it true that every house in Zoar is haunted? That's what the locals of
this German separatist community believe. They claim ghosts occasionally are
seen roaming the village. The Lantern Tours of the Ghosts of Zoar reveals all.
The "Warehouse Ghost Tours" in Canal Fulton allow participants to explore
century-old buildings with local Registered Ghost Investigator Miss Sheri.
Participants learn of the area's haunted past and present, and get a course in
the art of spirit dowsing with divining rods and paranormal investigation.
The adventure continues with a trip to Lake "Eerie" and a Cleveland Ghost
Tour with Psychic Sonya. An ordained spiritual adviser, Sonya is a paranormal
investigator. Her tours take people to some of Cleveland's most haunted
locations.
Central Ohio
Guests of Granville's historic Buxton Inn may encounter some unusual
roommates. Expect a restless night in Room 9, where "The Lady in Blue" died.
Her cat reportedly pounces on the bed in an attempt to wake her. And watch out
for a pie-stealing ghost.
In Columbus, take an evening ghost tour sponsored by the Columbus
Landmarks Foundation. The tour includes the Kelton House, where visitors are
warned against venturing into the attic. Items there have been known to fly
through the air unaided.
Top it off with a stop in Mansfield at its shuttered Ohio State
Reformatory. Site of filming for "The Shawshank Redemption," this closed
prison allows the true specter seeker an opportunity to spend the night for
its "Haunted Prison Experience."
Southwest Ohio
Waynesville boasts 16 haunted structures. Take one of Dennis Dalton's
"Not So Dearly Departed" tours and hear stories of ghostly sightings. After
the tour, spend the night at the Hammel House Inn and ask for rooms 4 or 5,
where the apparition of a murdered salesman can be seen passing through walls.
At Lebanon's historic Golden Lamb Inn, encounter the ghosts of a little
girl in a white nightgown and a gaunt man smoking a cigar. Guests just might
hear the stomping of feet in "Sarah's Room." Is a poltergeist at work?
Just to the east of Cincinnati, take the evening "Tours of Haunted
Clermont County." During the journey, visitors may encounter a driverless
Impala along a creepy stretch of road. Also look for a glowing gravestone or
spirits emerging from the Ohio River.
Southeast Ohio
Those who know and love Marietta's Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theatre believe
it is haunted by Marietta's most notorious phantom. Some call the phantom Mr.
Shea, believing him to be the spirit of a man who owned a string of small-town
vaudeville theatres in the 1920s. Share chilling tales on a pre-scheduled,
behind-the-scenes ghost tour.
Marietta's premier Victorian mansion, The Castle, has a history of strange
unexplained incidents. The Castle offers a ghost tour by lantern light at
7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. by appointment.
Marietta legend says the Lafayette Hotel, on the National Register of
Historic Places, has its own eidolon that wanders the third-floor hallway.
