Review of Oamaru New Zealand OAMARU
Calling Code: +64 3

115km north of Dunedin on Hwy 1, this is the main town of North Otago and has a population of just under 13,000. Oamaru is a charming little place noted for both its interesting collection of white granular limestone buildings and its large and diverse penguin population. Take a look at the Totara Estate and the classic collection of house along the Harbour-Tyne Street Precinct to truly appreciate the wonderful diversity of the Oamaru architecture.

The beaches are also well worth a look but the best vantage spot is Lookout Point, at the end of Tamar Street, where the uninterrupted views across the entire town and harbour are absolutely spectacular.
