What's it like?
If you're looking for a place to chill out and catch some decent waves, you should definitely check out Tim's place up in Taupo Bay. Isobar Surf offers a bunch of different packages and a lodge offering you the ultimate surf experience along with great accommodation at affordable prices and free extra activities.

We spent a weekend here and while I never actually made it to the beach (too busy working on this stuff) my mate got in at least 3 surfs in 36 hours. This made him happy so I assumed it was a good thing. The weather wasn't that great but a thick mist laid over the place.

The lodge is actually Tim's house and as a builder by trade built just about everything in the house. The entire house is open plan living and creates a very laid back atmosphere. There is a 6 bed dormitory and 2 double rooms - great for those with partners. A large sun deck surrounds the 2nd layer of the house as well as behind the dorm. Everyone is expected to clean up after themselves and treat the place with respect, but that is common sense. The doors and windows are always open and some chill cd is playing over the stereo.

You're just minutes from the beach but realize you're in the country here - he only gets 2 TV channels (as long as the weather is nice) and cell phones only work in one tiny little corner of a window of the house. But deal with it, you're here to surf in New Zealand not watch TV all day!

If you're gonna travel abroad, make sure you are prepared... take it from us, travel insurance is an absolute must!
