What's it like?
Located some 4km northeast of Leigh in Northland, Goat Island Marine Reserve was New Zealand's
first marine reserve. Named for it's most prominent feature, a small bush-clad island 300m offshore, the Reserve
stretches 5km along the shoreline and 800m off the coast.
