Name: Hastings Street
Location: Noosa Queensland Australia

What's it like?
The mobile phone on the table appears quite at home at any of the al fresco dining locations that are dotted along Noosa's Hastings Street. The call may be from a girl friend, and on occasion, Mum has been instructed to ring at a precise time.

It's just that taking an 'unexpected' call can look very cool, seated in one of the nation's best known boulevards, sipping a skinny-chino, hand ready to pounce on the mobile, watching the world pass by.

Hastings Street is champagne territory, although a chardonnay, and even a 'crownie' doesn't look out of place.

Noosa is still regularly rated as one of Australia's most favoured getaway destinations. It's stylishly inspiring, yet so totally laid back.

Such is its attractiveness that Queenslanders will drive for nearly two hours from suburban Brisbane just to take coffee.

On weekends, nearly every table has been taken and there's always a good mix of locals amongst the other beautiful people who have been successful in commandeering a table. This is one of those streets in which a cup of coffee and a glass or two of water can literally be made to last for several hours.

But, let's not delay, there's far too much to do and see whilst in this playground of the rich and famous. Wander the foyers and the public rooms of the resorts to play 'spot the star'. In Noosa, the celebs select their abodes from the range of top-of-the-range properties, including the Sheraton Noosa, Tingirana Noosa, the Sebel Resort Noosa, Netanya and the French Quarter.

Hastings Street is home to the best in boutiques, international standard resort hotels and classy restaurants, yet it's still possible to rent a unit at a price that doesn't destroy the credit card, 'eat out' on a hamburger, and at certain times of the year, snap up fashion at heavily discounted prices.

Hastings Street not only leads into the finest of retail outlets, it also accesses Noosa's famous Main Beach, as well as the Noosa National Park, which also happens to be one of Queensland's few coastal national parks. From Hastings Street, follow the walking track along the foreshore to park headquarters. Then it's just a matter of following the well-signed tracks all the way to Sunshine Beach.

Noosa is now the stepping off point for those holidaymakers who are intent on travelling to beautiful World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, with tour companies happily collecting their charges from throughout the region. Full day tours travel along Rainbow Beach, passing the Coloured Sands, the Carlo Sand Blow and then by barge across to the world's largest sand island.

Others choose to stay in the luxury of their resort property, selecting a premium spot around the swimming pool, or soaking up the Queensland sun on the beach.

At dusk, each of the resorts takes on a new mantle: the lights dance across the pools, the bars alive with music and laughter, and Hastings Street welcomes its evening clientele - dressed 'smart-casual' as they make their way to dinner. They have the joy of selecting from a myriad of restaurants including those that come on high recommendation, such as Lindoni's, Jaspers, Berado's and BistroC.

A day soon passes, and at Noosa, each day just happens to be even better than the day before. The experiences continue to mount, matched only by the pleasures that accompany.
