Milan (Italian: Milano) is, financially, the most important city in Italy and the region of Lombardy (Italian: Lombardia). Together with Paris it is one of the fashion capitals of the world: a paradise for shopping, Opera and night life.
If Rome represents the "old" Italy, Milan represents the "new" Italy. Milan is the most modern of all Italian cities, while keeping most of its past history intact.
