GREENWOOD
Calling Code: +
1
This is the place where you can visit not one, but three, possible
burial sites of Blues genius Robert Johnson, whose brief career ended with his
premature death at age 27. Tour the Greenwood Blues Heritage Museum and Gallery
in historic downtown Greenwood to learn more about this influential, mysterious
figure who, legend has it, sold his sold to the devil to play the guitar.
Greenwood like Johnson, is unique and timeless. With two rivers that flow in opposite
direction, the city simultaneously satisfies your craving to understand what has
gone before as it disarms you with luxury that is totally of our day. Step into
the sumptuous atmosphere of the Alluvian Hotel and you will find architecture
and amenities on par with the best accommodation in the nation. Indulge your passion
for cooking at the Viking Cooking School, offered in the Viking Range Headquarters
complex.
The Cottonlandia Museum will help you put the Blues in context as it chronicles
the history of the Mississippi Delta and the story of cotton. VIew Civil War relics
and a huge number of Native American artifacts that included the Southeast's largest
collection of trade beads. At the same time, appreciate the talent of today's
regional artists as you view their works among the museum's watercolors, paintings,
stained glass and sculpture.
Greenwood has special events happening year round from a Civil War re-enactment
in the spring to the Cotton Capital Blues Festival in the fall and ushering in
the yuletide season with the state's oldest and largest Christmas parade/celebration.
