GREENVILLE
Calling Code: +
Heritage, history, and hot tamales will be on your to-do list for Greenville.
The city is a reminder that the Delta not only has produced great musicians, it
also has produced great writers. The Greenville Writer's Exhibit features the
works of over 100 published writers who have lived here, including Walker Percy,
Clifton Taulbert, Ellen Douglas, and Pulitzer Prize winners Hodding Carter, Jr.,
and Shelby Foote.
The rich farmlands and lush forests of Washington County makes for some of the
best bird watching and nature viewing to be found anywhere along the Mississippi
River. In Leland, Jim Henson's boyhood home, you will want to stop by the Birthplace
of Kermit the Frog to learn about Henson's Delta boyhood and how he conceived
his beloved Muppets.
And so you don't miss a beat on your Blues tour, take in the Highway 61 Blues
Museum in downtown Leland. For live Blues music, the Walnut Street Blues Club
in downtown Greenville features many of the area's legendary Blues performers.
A National Historic Landmark and one of the nation's most significant prehistoric archeological sites, the Winterville Indian Mounds and Museum is a must see. The twelve mounds include a massive seven-story temple mound.
