MENDOZA
Calling Code: +54
Nestled in Argentina's "Garden of the Andes," the fertile Rio Mendoza Valley at the foot of the Sierra de los Paramillos,
Mendoza is an important agricultural market and center of a thriving wine-producing region. With orchards, vineyards and market gardens,
tree-lined streets and plaza fountains, Mendoza and its environs have a distinct Italianate character thanks to an influx of Italian
immigrants in the late 19th century.
Linked by rail and highway to Argentina's major ports, Mendoza is a gateway to Chile and a popular
travel destination in itself. The city is home to a museum of anthropology and natural sciences, three universities and several
theatres.
Besides superb foods and wines, the region offers visitors a variety of outdoor activities, including white water rafting, hiking,
trekking, skiing, horseback riding, paragliding and fishing.
