Name: The Mangrove Hotel
Address: 47 Carnarvon St
City, State: Broome, Western Australia
Telephone: (08) 9192 1303
Price (per room per night): AU$63-AU$258
What were the accommodations like?
The beer garden at the Mangrove Hotel is probably the best place in town to catch
the monthly phenomenon Staircase to the Moon, or at least they want you to think that - the hotel
overlooks the mangroves and the blue expanse of Roebuck Bay.
The rooms at the Mangrove are clean, nice and a good size. I stayed here on two different
occasions and was really pleased both times. There are a two of restaurants and a couple
different bars (we actually came here to watch the AFL final on the big screen). All rooms have air con which can be
a total plus in the heat of the dry season. Each room has a balcony but the bottom floor ones aren't
enclosed so there is some added danger. On the occasion our room was upstairs, our balcony over looked
the pool and beer garden and was great. It was a little loud at night, but then again it's not like
we were wanting to go to bed at 9pm. Each of the 49 deluxe rooms has colour TV,
a private bathroom, direct dial STD/ISD telephone,
AM/FM radio, refrigerator and tea and coffee making facilities.
The Mangrove has a great location as it's in the middle of town. Mind you Broome isn't that
big of a town, but you won't need a car if you stay here. Getting to the beach is easy as you
can catch the town bus right outside front of the hotel. If you don't feel like leaving, there are
two giant pools and a spa on the premise.
If you're lucky enough to be there for the full moon, you've got to check out Staircase to the Moon.
It's a unique phenomenon to Broome where the light of the moon reflecting off the salt lakes creates a staircase leading
upward. The Mangrove puts on quite a show for it, bringing in local entertainment and didgeridoos...
It's something you'll never forget. Weddings are also held here several times a week during the dry season.
Make sure you check out their website...
