Malaysia offers a blend of culture and nature to visitors who seek both and is
another great stopover with the advantage
that English is widely spoken. The capital Kuala Lumpur, offers
much for the tourist, including the beautiful Perdana Lake Gardens
and the bustling Central Market, where local crafts can be found
at bargain prices.
Sunbathing on white sand beached edging the China Sea, taking a river safari or
shining lights on the giant limestone curtains in a cave are all special natural
experiences waiting for visitors to the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak
on Borneo, or the island of Langkawi.
In Sarawak, you could journey down the Lemanak
tributary passing rubber and pepper plantations, go jungle trekking and stay overnight
in a longhouse. Visit the world's largest orangutan sanctuary on Sabah, then head
to the Poring Hot Springs where you can look down on birds and animals while navigating
the Forest Canopy Walkways, then soak in the pools.
On Langkawi you can glide over the treetops in the rainforest on a cable car ride
to Gunung Mat Cincang from the Burau Bay area. Underwater in the Pulau Payar Marine
Park or one of its neighboring islands, you can see juvenile black-tip sharks,
barracudas and groupers. This island has a spectacular cave to explore, such as
Gua Dangli, which can only entered at low tide, and Gua Cerita where faintly legible
ancient inscriptions are on the walls.
Malaysia is also home to one of the tallest building in the world, the Petronas Towers.
