With its colourful Victorian and Edwardian
homes lining the hillsides along the river
and Victoria parklands, Launceston offers
beautiful architecture and a relaxed
atmosphere. Founded in 1805 just after
Hobart it is the second largest city in the
island state.
The River Tamar leading to beaches on the
north coast is the centre of a burgeoning
wine district. Here you can try delicious
chardonnay, pinot and cabernet. Take a
tour to the Tamar Valley and experience
the sloping hills as well as learn more
about some of the complexities of wine
tasting.
To the south of the city a number of very
English towns and villages are located in
superb farming and grazing country
complete with historic mansions, imposing
churches, elegant properties and stunning
landscapes. With its history, scenery, lush
Tamar Valley and elegant architecture,
Launceston is a must to visit.
