Review of international travel to Italy

Here are some suggested itineraries for travel to Italy:

Two Days
Visit Rome. Get St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums done in one day an the Colosseum, Roman Forum and a few piazzas the next.

One Week
Spend two or three days in Rome, then catch the train up to Florence and allow a couple of days for the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia, Duomo and palaces. You could take an afternoon trip out to Pisa to see the famous leaning bell tower, or simply head straight to Venice for two more days of exploration through the narrow streets and canals.

Two Weeks
Follow the one week itinerary but include a trip to Siena and Perugia and a day trip from Venice to Verona. From there you can easily get to Bologna or Milan; or head south from Rome to Naples and then to the ruins of Pompeii.

One Month
In northern Italy head to Assisi in Umbria and spend some time in the countryside around Tuscany and spend a few days exploring the Ligurian coast. Head to Turin and allow a few days for the Italian Alps - Val Gardena and Canazei are popular resorts. In southern Italy, spend time exploring Sicily, including Mt. Etna and the Aeolian Islands. Spend the day taking a ferry ride to Sardinia.

These are just suggested itineraries... feel free to make your own and get off the beaten path!
