Review of travel to Istanbul India ISTANBUL
Calling Code: +90

Istanbul, formerly known as Constantinople, is a fascinating city whose history spans over 2,900 years. It was the former capital of three successive empires: Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman. Today, Istanbul, a major port, is the largest city in Turkey. Noisy and often chaotic, many consider it to be one of the most glorious cities in the world.

Although the legacy of Istanbul's rich history is well preserved, it is also a modern city constantly looking toward the future. Trendy clubs, restaurants and shops can be found side by side with Byzantine ruins.

Istanbul is also unique in that it is located on two continents, thanks to the Bosphorus Strait, which divides the city in two. (European Istanbul comprises the bulk of the city to the west, while Asian Istanbul to the east is primarily residential.) This bustling waterway not only links Europe and Asia, but brings in much trade to Istanbul.

Some of the major industries of Istanbul include shipbuilding and liquor distilling, as well as the manufacturing of cement, cigarettes, food products, glass, leather products and pottery. Turkey is also world-renowned for their beautiful carpets.
