Name: Ingleside Inn
Address: 200 West Ramon Road
City, State: Palm Springs, California, USA
Telephone: (760) 325-0046
Price (per room per night):
What's it like?
Greta Garbo slept there. Carol
Lombard and Clark Gable honeymooned there. Frank Sinatra threw a
lavish pre-wedding dinner the night before his wedding to Barbara
Marx. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell flew in just to have a poolside
lunch and a swim.
The Ingleside Inn's list of guests read like a "Who's Who" of
Hollywood. Since the 1930's when film stars escaped the glare of
Hollywood for a respite in Palm Springs, the tony desert community
has been renowned for its allure and glamour. New Hollywood has continued
that tradition -- Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt headed to Palm
Springs after their media frenzy Malibu wedding. California Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have been happily ensconced
at the Ingleside Inn on numerous occasions.
What is the mystique that draws celebrities and visitors from around
the world to Palm Springs?
The palm tree-lined avenues, the sweeping views of Mt. San Jacinto
and the Santa Rosa Mountains, the stunning desert landscape, all create a
natural beauty that is both tranquil and rejuvenating.
While the town has morphed into a sophisticated tourist destination
since Hollywood discovered it in the 1930s, the quaint charm of
a "village" is still in tact. And nowhere is the best of these two
worlds more in perfect balance than Melvyn's at the Ingleside Inn.
After a major makeover this summer the Ingleside Inn is ready once
again to receive guests and Hollywood notables in its grand style.
The 1925 Palm Springs historic landmark underwent a $400,000 renovation
including new furnishings, wall treatments, updating of bathrooms and
many more additions. "It is basically a new look for the new season,"
said owner Melvyn Haber.
The Inn's restaurant Melvyn's was also part of the renovation project
with updated design elements such as new wall paint in warm golden
tones, designer carpet, plush dining room chairs and draperies that
evoke nostalgic elegance. Another addition to the list of new
developments: dining guests are now serenaded by a new strolling
violinist. Giovanni performs classical and contemporary favorites as
well as special requests.
Some things however have not changed at Melvyn's - nightly live
entertainment and dancing are still on the menu in the Casablanca
Lounge. Each evening from 8:30 p.m. -- 1:30 a.m. guests can enjoy an
after-dinner cocktail in Melvyn's Restaurant and the legendary Ingleside Inn are the
quintessential Palm Springs experience. The old-world elegance and
charm of a boutique hotel combined with Melvyn's stellar service and
cuisine offer guests the best of comfort with style; sophistication
in a relaxed ambiance; and quality at great value.
Melvyn's at the historic Ingleside Inn in Palm Springs is open for
lunch and dinner daily and serves Champagne brunch on Saturday and
Sunday. Reservations are recommended, phone (760) 325-2323.
