Beautiful Hinchinbrook Island, located off the coast of Cardwell is Australia's largest island national park. It promises a variety of environments the most unexpected being craggy mist-shrouded mountain peaks.
There is a low-key Hinchinbrook Island Resort nestled into the tree tops which offers bush walking, canoeing and the solitide of no phones or TV!
The island is home to one of the world's most impressive hiking tracks, the 32km Thorsborne Trail which is a four or five night self-guided trek. The trail traces a rugged line along the island's eastern coast from Ramsay Bay in the north through rainforests, mangrove swamps, waterfalls, rocky enclaves and curving white beaches to George Point in the south. All camping gear and provisions must be carried and camping permits must be obtained prior to arrival.
