Name: Grand Canyon
Location: Northwest Corner of Arizona

What's it like?
The Grand Canyon, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, is located in the northwest corner of Arizona and is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and up to a mile deep.

Its beauty, with its high red walls, green Colorado River deep below and unforgettable sunsets is almost beyond belief.

Most of the Grand Canyon lies within the Grand Canyon National Park and incorporates three geographically separate areas: the South Rim, the North Rim, and the inner canyon.

The rocks that form the Grand Canyon are up to 2 billion years old, each layer representing a distinct geologic period. The Grand Canyon is often said to be an open geological book.

SOUTH RIM
The Canyon's South Rim is mostly desert, and open all year round. Due to a lack of surface water during the last few centuries, typical desert flora and fauna have evolved. The Grand Canyon Village area attracts large numbers of tourists and offers a wide variety of lodging, restaurants, shops and attractions all year-round.

NORTH RIM
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon, also referred to as "the other Grand Canyon", is generally open from mid-May through mid-October. The landscape, flora, fauna and climate here are different. This part of the canyon is isolated and hard to reach by car, which keeps the north rim wild, secluded and peaceful.

INNER CANYON
The inner canyon can be accessed by foot, mule, or by boat on the Colorado River. Those, traveling on foot should know that hiking the inner canyon is physically challenging and requires careful planning.
