Review of travel to Geneva Switzerland GENEVA
Calling Code: +41 (0)22

Geneva, for over 2000 years a meeting place of people and cultures, became the capital of the Burgundian kingdom in the 5th century. In 1536, after fleeing Paris, the religious reform Jean Calvin converted the city on Lake Geneva into a "Protestant Rome". Today, Geneva is Switzerland's most cosmopolitan city, home to the United Nations and the place where Henri Dunant founded the Red Cross in 1854.

A building worthy of note is the headquarters of the World Meteorological Organization (OMM) by Rino Brodbeck and Jacques Roulet. Some 40 museums around the hill of the old town and the imposing St Peters Cathedral foster a brisk exchange of ideas in the fields of art, architecture, science and philosophy.

Luxury and extravagance are paramount in this watchmaking and banking metropolis, as shown in the Patek Philippe Museum.

It's landmark is the famous Jet d'Eau, the fountain in the lake. Geneva delights the travellers and locals alike with its culinary offerings and glamorous nightlife.
