What's it like?
Fraser Island, one of Australia's backpacker magnets, has some great offers on what Lonely Planet describes as "The Cool Dingo Tour". These Wilderness Adventure Tours are a great 'no worries' way to see Queensland's World Heritage listed Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. Fraser Island is a popular backpacker destination because it has the best Australia has to offer on one island - cool rainforests to walk through, over 100 beautiful fresh water lakes to swim in, huge sand blows to climb, fast-flowing streams and 'Champagne' rock pools to play in and an amazing 75 mile beach highway to drive along complete with a shipwreck and coloured sands. By joining an organised tour you don't have to worry about hiring 4WDs (and driving them in sand), stocking up on food, reading maps and getting lost or having enough cash for fuel. The action-packed, guided Wilderness Adventure Tour gives visitors the best of both worlds - days spent exploring Fraser Island with an interpretive ranger in a 4WD coach and nights spent enjoying restaurant meals and resort activities. Kingfisher Bay Resort has a purpose built backpacker lodge and a backpacker restaurant, bar and nightclub complete with big screen video clips and pool tables. Set in a eucalypt forest and surrounded by a wealth of bush tucker plants and birds the lodges have bunkrooms, two bathrooms and large, open common areas. Catamaran transfers from Hervey Bay, accommodation, meals and all guided tours are included in the price.
