Name: Finch Hatton Gorge
City, State: Queensland Australia

What's it like?
Located at the base of the Eungella Range and 80km west of Mackay, Finch Hatton Gorge is a spectacular wonderland of tropical rainforest interspersed by pristine rock pools and waterfalls. Imagine swimming in a clear rock pool as water cascades down from tall boulders and large rainforest trees tower above.

Location
On your way to Eungella along the Eungella Road, look for the sign to Finch Hatton Gorge about 10km past Pinnacle, or about 1km before you hit the village of Finch Hatton itself. The gorge road is about 12km long with the last 6km being well-kept gravel.

Bushwalks
There are two main tracks leading from the picnic ground. The shorter 1.6km track leads to Araluen Falls with its refreshing rock pool and waterfall. The longer "wheel of fire" walk leads onward from the turn-off track to Araluen and is more of a physical challenge while you wander through some spectacular landscapes.

Special flora and fauna
Grand trees line Finch Hatton Gorge's waterways while groves of palms grow everywhere. If you're lucky, you'll spot the native water rat or the tiny Eungella day frog.

Things to do
Finch Hatton is pretty much untouched and the walks, rock pools and waterfalls are its best asset. There's a pleasant kiosk tucked away near the picnic ground.

Accommodation
There are cabins and camping facilities at the Platypus Bush Camp, while fully self-contained cabins can be found at the Finch Hatton Gorge Cabins.
