Review of Fez Morocco FEZ
Calling Code: +212

Fez, also spelled Fs, is the oldest of Morocco's four imperial cities and is widely considered the heart of Morocco. Located in a rich agricultural region in northern Morocco, Fez is rimmed by low hills blanketed with orchards and olive groves. Fez actually comprises two cities: the old city, Fs el-Bali, or medina, and the new city, Fs el-Jedid, founded in 1276. The medina of Fs el-Bali, still partly enclosed by its original battlemented stone walls, teems with life and remains one of the largest living medieval cities in the world. Within its walls are the QarawYyYn Mosque, North Africa's oldest mosque, and two universities: a famous Muslim university founded in 859, and the Sidi Mohammed ibn Abdellah University, founded in 1974. The new section, Fs el-Jedid, houses the Royal Palace and the Great Mosque, along with the historic Jewish quarter called the Mellah. On a plateau to the southwest is the city's modern section, the Ville Nouvelle, which was founded in 1916.
