The Inn at St. John's, metro Detroit's premier

Restaurant. Award-winning local chef Tom Mackinnon, recently appointed
Executive Chef for The Inn at St. John's, has created a menu offering
inspired, innovative, eclectic twists on American classics,
complemented by a 'Napa chic' setting. Located inside The Inn's new
118-room luxury boutique hotel, Five Restaurant offers overnight
guests, social patrons and area residents a dining experience that's
anything but ordinary.
Contemporary design paired with traditional elegance describes both
the menu and atmosphere of Five Restaurant. For breakfast or brunch,
Five offers European-style twists on crepes, French toast and other
favorites and features a Bloody Mary bar. The lunch menu includes a
selection of preludes, house-made soups, creative sandwiches, and
fresh salads. Entr�e selections include a grilled Tandoori Salmon,
Butter-Boiled and Glazed with Tandoori Sauce, served with Frizzled
Leeks, Vegetable of the Day and Corn Pudding; Fresh Steamed Chicken
alla Bresaola features a Steamed Breast of Chicken, topped with Wilted
Greens, House-Made Mozzarella and Ratatouille Sauce and crowned with a
Bresaola Flower and Gnocchi d�cor.
Tantalizing small plates appetizers, freshly prepared entrees,
tempting desserts and a fine wine list are the focal points of Five's
dinner menu. Starters include Chef Tommy Mac's Under Sea Experience
with Seared Colossal Scallop, Crab Stuffed Prawn and a Lobster Claw
atop a Calamari Crisscross; an ensemble of rich Lobster Bisque,
Lobster Crab Cake and a Jumbo Lobster Claw called The Lobster Circus;
and My Irish Egg Roll, a combination of Lean Corned Beef, House-Made
Mozzarella and Spiced Kraut. Entr�e selections include Seared French
Lamb Chops Arugulerette, Stuffed South African Rock Lobster Tail and
Five's Signature Grill featuring Grilled Piedmontese Tenderloin Filet,
seared to order and sliced over a Dome of Red-Pepper Mash, then served
with Braised Maple Leaf Duck, Fresh Vegetable Terrine, Mango Demi
Sauce and Fresh Garlic B�arnaise Sauce.
Designed by Brown-Teefey Associates Architects of Bloomfield Hills,
Mich., the d�cor of Five Restaurant marries the Italianate
architecture of the existing facility with elements of Arts and Crafts
architecture in a modern, comfortable space. Custom-designed glass and
wood paneling, along with original artwork on the walls, are among the
accents of the restaurant. The restaurant is inviting, with shades of
tangerine, celery and moss greens, and a palette of browns in a
variety of textures and surfaces throughout the space, including warm
woods, a marble-topped bar and plush, patterned carpets.
Five Restaurant also features a martini lounge that offers an array of
specialty cocktails, signature martinis, wines by the glass and a
tapas dining menu. Modern touches include a curved bar, lounge
chairs and a humidor. The setting is chic and sophisticated, a place
to meet, mingle and see the "who's who" of metro Detroit. Outdoor
terrace seating �- open in season - overlooks The Inn at St. John's
picturesque grounds, lush gardens and well-manicured golf course,
certain to make diners feel as if they've been transported to the
California countryside.
In addition to his role as Executive Chef at Five Restaurant, Chef
Mackinnon serves as culinary director of the conference, event and
special occasion menus and supervises all kitchen operations at The
Inn at St. John's. Prior to joining The Inn at St. John's, Mackinnon
spent over two decades as chef and owner of Mackinnon's restaurant in
Northville. Mackinnon has since turned over that establishment to his
son.
Five Restaurant seats 70 in the dining area and another 70 in the
martini lounge. Hours of operation for Five Restaurant: M-F 6:00am -
11:00pm, Sat. 7:00am - 11:00pm and Sun. 7:00am - 10:00pm. The martini
lounge is open M-Th 11:00am - midnight, F-Sat. 11:00am - 2:00am and
Sun. 12:00pm - 11:00pm
