The town is Childers, and the product is grown and produced in Childers.
Mammino produces gourmet ice creams and macadamia nut products. This is the home
of the world's finest nut, the only Australian plant to be cultivated as a food
crop. The macadamia nut has a great history; first discovered in 1828 south of
Brisbane, by explorer and botanist, Alan Cunningham.
Nestled amongst the red soil of the Isis cane fields, Mammino's grew from humble beginnings. In the mid-1970s the family company was selling nuts from a roadside stall - swiftly expanding by value-adding nuts to a variety of multi award-winning products.
Mammino is a tourist attraction in its own right, packing and marketing the ice cream products, macadamia spreads, macadamia coffee, and macadamia tea. For motorists or coach passengers looking for a snack, the macadamia tarts, cookies and fudge are attractive travelling snacks.
