CALIFORNIA
Calling Code: +1
A lot of places promise"something for everyone" - but California
wrote the book on diversity. A melting pot with people from more than 200 different
cultures. A geographical mosaic of desert oases and snow-capped mountains, sophisticated
cities and charming country towns, sun-splashed beaches and redwood-lined rivers.
A place where the fun doesn't come and go with the seasons, but stretched throughout
the year.
This unique blend of attitude and environment makes California the ultimate vacation
destination. Not just one type of getaway, but just about anything you could ever
imagine. Cruise along the Big Sur coast - top down and the wind in your hair.
Hike the John Muir Trail between the Sequoia and Yosemite. Dune buggy your way
across the Mojave. Script your very own version of Sideways in Santa Barbara
or dozen other luscious wine producing regions.
Anyone who thinks Hollywood gossip is the ultimate in California culture should
take another look at the Golden State. From San Francisco's brand-new state of
the art de Young Museum to the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA to the
legendary Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, California's"left brain" has never been
more vibrant.
That same creative pioneering spirit also lives in the state;s culinary tradition.
The fabulous French Laundry in Yountville lead a gourmet charge beyond the big
cities into just about every corner of the Golden State. Among the new hotbeds
of gastronomic mastery are San Diego's Gaslamp District, Sacramento's up-and-coming
Midtown neighborhood, and scenic Sonoma and Mendocino counties to the north of
San Francisco.
California shopping has also spread its wings. Gone are the days when Rodeo Drive and Union Square where the only names in luxury. Those in the known now flock to Palm Springs, Santa Barbara or La Jolla for their fancy frocks. While cutting-edge emporiums like the Galleria at Roseville and the Downtown Disney© District have boosted left coast retail into a whole different orbit of comfort and extravagance.
