What were the accommodations like?
There is a wonderful incongruity between the ruggedness of the Kimberley and the colonial opulence of the Cable Beach Resort. It's a compelling mixture of the Orient and the Australian Outback. Cable Beach Resort is bound by a standard of excellence that has been recognised throughout the World. The resort can contribute much of this recognition to its fascinating and colourful past. The Cable Beach Clubs creation is the stuff of legends and dreams.

In the 1970's, a wealthy English Lord with vision and imagination saw the potential of a beachside resort in Broome. From the first time Lord McAlpine came to Broome he had his heart set on the magnificent stretch of land bordering the beautiful Cable Beach. After much discussion and deliberation the Lord was able to purchase the land. The contract was signed on the back of a beer coaster in the Pearlers Bar of the Roebuck Bay Hotel. The result was Lord McAlpine's dream finally realised- Cable Beach Club Resort.

Opened in May 1988, the first stage of the resort was a collection of Broome-style bungalows, a reception area, dining area and a small functions area. From these humble beginnings the Club has grown to a truly outstanding Resort, and an integral part of the Broome experience.

The Resort was designed to blend in sympathy with Broome's multicultural environment. Lord McAlpine would travel the world then return with vast collections of artwork, artifacts and furniture from Dutch colonial, Asian and Middle Eastern origins. Rather than being a haphazard assortment of miscellaneous pieces, the collection is a testament to Lord McAlpines impeccable taste. Even today, these worldly possessions decorate the rooms, restaurants and gardens of the Resort, and many of these pieces boast their own history and cultural significance.
