What's it like?
Exactly 100 years after its completion, the gracious Bundaberg homestead of Waterview Estate underwent a total refurbishment, becoming an even more magnificent 'heritage home', quite rightly described these days as having the character and grandeur of a governor's residence.

Instead of this magnificent home being reserved for vice regal parties, it is now the favoured bed and breakfast (B&B) address for discerning couples.

Built in 1880, Waterview Estate, with its wide halls, stained glass windows and luxurious appointments, is the most perfect address for those who have a few days to spend in this delightful Queensland city. You'll need a few days because there's so much to include in your travel plans.

Bundaberg is the stepping off point for Lady Musgrave Island and also Lady Elliot Island at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. It's the home of Mon Repos, the world famous turtle sanctuary (November to March), it's also home for Hinkler House, commemorating the local aviator who set aviation records early last century.

Bundaberg too is the home of Bundaberg Rum Distillery.

Now, there's enough in those suggestions to keep you in Bundaberg for a week and no better place to put the feet up after a day's touring than Waterview Estate. Set on 12 sprawling acres, the property has lawns that roll down to the banks of the Burnett River.

On arrival, refreshments are served, and each morning, a full breakfast is served on a roomy glassed-in verandah - just perfect to start a morning, as Bundaberg's winter sun starts to share its warming rays.
