Name: Brisbane Forest Park
City, State: Queensland Australia
What's it like?
Brisbane Forest Park is a piece of beautiful wilderness in the middle of a city of nearly a million people.
The park comprises 28,500 ha of multi-use forest, plus the Walkabout Creek Visitors' Centre and plays an important role for Brisbanites as a green 'lung' for the city and a place for a wide range of recreational activities in a natural setting, from sedate picnics around a table to those wild and woolly bushwalks.
But it also includes forestry land, council land containing watersheds and areas used for environmental research.
The park runs an impressive array of activities from hands-on educational children's activities to art classes in the bush, lectures, and a series of walking opportunities from a gentle stroll to death-defying adventures.
The park provides for all types of walkers, from the superfit to the families who want to take it a little easier.
All this is within 15 minutes of the centre of Brisbane.
