This tiny Caribbean desert island turned into a diving mecca when
its ring of reefs became a marine preserve in 1979. With crystal clear waters,
an array of underwater attractions and no big development, Bonaire remains an
appeal and affordable destination even during December's high season.
Load a few
tanks of air into your rental 4WD and back right up to the water at more than
50 pristine drive up sites. At favorites such as Alice in Wonderland and 1000
Steps, keep an eye out for rays and turtles. Staying on the surface? Rent a bike
in downtown Kralendijk and cruise past flamingoes, parrots and donkeys in Washington-Slagbaai
National Park.
