BARCELONA
Calling Code: +34
If you thought that the non-stop party atmosphere
elsewhere in Spain was tiring, you'll sleep for a month after
a week in Barcelona. It's like no one told them that the Olympics
finished 10 years ago and they're still competing for the title
of "World Party Champs".
Barcelona is a city of world-class museums, filled with historical
artifacts, priceless modern art and some classics to boot. Try
the Museo Picasso and the Fundacío Joan Miró. But
it's the frenetic energy, cool elegance and romantic appeal that
will stick in your mind after you've gone.
The unique 'hey its melting' architecture of Antoni Gaudí
will transfix you, and the streams of people passing by provide
a parade of possibilities. European travellers often suffer from
ABC Syndrome (Another Bloody Church)! But not at the Sagrada Familia
where building began in 1882 and is still continuing on Gaudí's
creation. Twelve towers ride more than 100m and represent the
Apostles, the first proclaimers of Christianity.
For six days of the week Barcelona is a shopper's paradise, and
if you're in town on a Sunday there's the performance of the "sardana",
a traditional Catalan dance performed just outside the cathedral.
Don't forget Barcelona is one of Europe's hottest trend setting
cities and people are very fashion conscious, especially when
going out at night.
