Review of international travel to Austria and itinerary

Once the center of the mighty Hapsburg dynasty, Austria oozes both historical charm and stunning natural scenery. If you only have time to visit one place in Austria, head straight to Vienna...

Here are some suggested itineraries for travel to Austria:
Two Days
If you are just passing thru Austria, spend your time in Vienna checking out the central sights, visiting a few heuringen and taking in the opera. If you are a fan of Mozart and Julie Andrews, then you should head west to Salzburg. Head to the Hohensalzburg Castle, have a mug of beer at Augustiner Braustubl, a great brewery and beer hall run by monks, or wander the Baroque streets.

One Week
Spend a few more days in Vienna exploring the city's historical, architectural and cultural attractions. Travel to Salzburg and take a day trip to the ice caves and fortress in Werfen or the Salzkammergut lakes.

Two Weeks
With two weeks you can easily fit in skiing or hiking. Spend no more than 5 days in and around Vienna, including a cruise on the Danube. Give yourself 3 days in Salzburg with a day trip to Werfen and two days at the Salzkammergut lakes. Follow this with two days in Innsbruck and two days at an alpine resort like St. Anton and you will have definitely travelled Austria.

One Month
A month in Austria is more than enough time to leisurely visit all the places we have mentioned above. Take in a tour of the south with a visit to the university city of Graz, Hohe Tauern National Park and the Styrian wine routes, Klagenfurt and Lienz.

These are just suggested itineraries... feel free to make your own and get off the beaten path!
