What were the accommodations like?
Not that we're ones to complain, but we wouldn't stay in Fat Camel again.
They are in the process of renovating (the bar is already done) but they still have a long way to go.
The building is old and dingy and the facilities aren't that flash. There is one elevator that services 6 floors
thus if you have a group of people checking in or out you may have to wait a while.
All the rooms in the Fat Camel are set up apartment style - 4-6 separate
rooms that share a bathroom and lounge area. We stayed in a "doubles
apartment" meaning there we shared facilities with 6 other doubles.
When we first walked in the kitchen and lounge area stank of rotten
food and mildew. The bathroom has poor lighting and the shower was
almost too small to turn around in - a problem if you are a girl trying
to shave your legs! Once we got into our room it was alright but the
bed was quite bouncy and uncomfortable.
With all the other options for accommodation in Auckland, we definitely
wouldn't recommend this one. It's by no means the cheapest and definitely
the oldest and most rundown. Rumour has it they also suffered from
a serious infestation on bedbugs in 2004.
If you know of some accommodation we're missing,
review it for us!!
