What's it like?
To the east of Central Auckland lies the vast expanse of grass and trees that is the Auckland Domain.
One of the first eruptions in Auckland about 60,000 years ago formed what is now the
Domain. The Maori called it
pukekawa or "sour or bitter hill" because the soils wouldn't grow kumara. Today it is home to the Auckland Museum.
