What's it like?
You end up at this pub at the end of every Stray Auckland city tour,
probably because Speights sponsors a lot of Stray's activities... That aside, this is an okay pub. It's a bit big to
be your local, but that doesn't stop them for coming in for lunch.
Speaking of food, if you order off the bar menu the portions are huge. We're talking big here people. Enough for 2 maybe even
3 if you're not that hungry. We've tried the wedges and chicken wings and have been satisfied both times.
The dish shouldn't set you
back for more than $10.
Pints are $6 each and you guessed it, they only serve Speights. The story behind the pub is this, in the South Island of
New Zealand there is a town called Cardrona. It is the home of Speights, the "Pride of the South" - Speights is a southern beer
and they are very proud of it and don't want to share with the North Island. Inside the pub in Cardrona are old drinking posters
that make fun of the Northerners. When the Auckland decided they wanted to serve Speights, the Ale House requested that an identical
pub be built, IDENTICAL down to the posters. The town agreed and thus the Cardrona Speights Ale House was built in Mt Eden.
