Review of travel to Angkor Cambodia ANGKOR WAT
Calling Code: +855

Construction began on Angkor Wat, the world's largest temple and the centre of this ancient empire, in 802AD and took 30 years to complete. Dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, its the main draw card for visitors to north Cambodia. The five-towered temple features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which tells stories from Hindu mythology.

With the decline of the Khmer empire, Angkor Wat became a Buddhist temple and was continuously maintained, which helped its preservation. In 1992 UNESCO declared the monument, and the whole cite of Angkor, a world heritage site. The town of Siem Reap serves as a base for visitors to Angkor. It has some good hotels and plenty of professional guided tours on tap. You can even take a balloon ride over the park. Angkor Pass tickets covering a day or a week can be bought from official booths, which open at 5am. Temples and monuments are open from sunrise to sunset, but all are best views at different times of the day, depending on their orientation to the sun.
