The busy seaport of Aberdeen is situated on Scotland's North Sea coast, about 130 miles north of Edinburgh, on the Rivers Dee and Don. Aberdeen is the center of Scotland's fishing industry, the commercial capital of northeastern Scotland, and the center of Britain's North Sea oil industry. Dubbed the "Granite City" because of its many buildings constructed of gray or pink granite from local quarries, Aberdeen is known for its museums, galleries, shopping and nightlife. One of the most famous aspects of this lovely city is its fishing: both the Dee and the Don are filled with excellent salmon and trout, and deep-sea trawlers frequent its harbor.
